An interesting thing I've noticed...

is located in the details of my SiteMeter report the past couple of weeks. When I glanced at it recently, I was astounded by the number of page reads enumerated by one particular reader. It made me a little curious to know more. If you use SiteMeter, you know that it will display cities and countries of origin and the name of the ISP, but it does not list the email address of the reader, obviously for privacy reasons and to protect readers from being outed unwillingly.

So what I discovered when I delved into the little information available on SiteMeter was that somebody who uses a military computer system has been reading hundreds of Ms Kitty posts over the past couple of weeks, visiting a few times a day. That devoted reader seems to hail from Indianapolis (or the ISP does). So now I'm even more curious---am I being checked out in case I've said something deleterious about the military? (paranoid reaction) or is this reader just captured by my deathless prose? (egoistic reaction) or is it something else entirely? (probably)

Whatever the reason, I'm honored by the attention, which has jacked up my statistics markedly, and invite the mysterious but devoted reader to comment here. Welcome to the Saloon and Roadshow, Ms/Mr Military Reader! Glad you stopped by!

Indianapolis is home of Ft Ben Harrison and the Army's Finance Center.

You're being read by a bored accountant.

I doubt that Sitemeter, or any similar web traffic tracking program, is capable of displaying the email address or other personal information of visitors. The ISP Number will only take you as far as the computer that is being used, not who is sitting at it. . . Interestingly enough, I too have a pretty obsessive compulsive reader from Indianapolis who visits The Emerson Avenger blog several times a day, and sometimes more than a dozen times or more. . . almost without fail, but I don't think it is someone sitting at a military computer. ;-) It would be quite understandable if that person was leaving comments and coming back to check for responses to them but they aren't. . . I do get visits from various military institutions including Naval academies and such. I think the U*U Jihad Navy has some fans in the real Navy! :-)

Well, Ms. Kitty, you've caught me (coming out with hands up). We met last summer when BH (If I use gender-neutral abbreviations, does that make him my BS?) and I were visiting Port Townsend. Anyway, before this somewhat slow time at the office, never had much chance to follow any blogs except BS's, so I'm making up for lost time. I've been labouring under the ostrich-like delusion that if I just read and don't post any comments that I won't get caught web-surfing, but I do love your posts. Sometimes they make me laugh, occasionally cry and frequently think.

You sweetie! I wondered if it was you, when I saw the Indianapolis address! Glad you're having a few spare moments to read. I am honored that you would spend the time at Ms. Kitty's!

Now *that* is interesting and quite innovative Ms. Kitty! Using a web stats program to reestablished contact with someone. It seems that it was at least semi-intentional. Am I right? Well done in any case.

The Wonderful Wizard of U*Us was pleased to welcome a visitor from Lawrence Kansas yesterday. I am not aware of any tornadoes occurring there though. At least not yesterday. ;-)

There were a couple of clues that I didn't mention. It was a pleasant surprise!
