Mad Max is conked out.

Well, it's been a quiet day here at Ms. Kitty's, what with Maxwelton off at the vet's getting clipped. The instructions from the vet said to give him nothing to eat or drink after 10 p.m. and to have him there around 8 a.m. today.

I shuddered, thinking about the logistics of feeding Loosy and Lily while keeping Max away from the food, but it worked out pretty well to feed them all at 10 p.m., then put away all the food and water until morning, sequester the boycat while the girls ate, and then put it all away again.

Low blood sugar and thirst are no problem for Max, apparently, as his energy level was unabated this morning, though he looked puzzled at the lack of anything to put in his mouth. Finally it was 8 a.m. and we hustled off to the vet.

When I returned without him, L & L were suspicious and yet relieved. We all had a Max-free day, the girls snoozing undisturbed by the radiator, safe from the pillaging Mad One, I doping out this Sunday's sermon.

But it was too quiet. And when I picked him up at 3 p.m., we all wondered what to expect. A sore tush and general anesthesia have combined to keep the activity level down and it has continued to be a quiet day. He's currently sacked out in Loosy's favorite warm spot, after devouring a good-sized mound of Friskies. I expect that tomorrow we'll be back to chaos again.

I have ordered a new down comforter from The Company Store, after learning from the vet that the comforter would never lose its urine-y smell and was likely to be peed on again because of that smell. I hope such accidents are behind us, with Max's former gonads.

Ouch. Under the circumstances, given that Max is a member of an ecclesiastical family, he deserves to be renamed, something like "Origen" or "Abelard".

So now max is Slightly Off-Kilter Max? Not-Quite-So-Mad Max? Thank you for doing your part to control the animal population as well as ensuring peace to your home and your Maxie as well. Maybe he'll slow down a little more...maybe.....

Yes, well, he didn't go under the knife voluntarily, LF, like Origen and Abelard, nor for any good reason like relationships with girls. It was strictly my call.

And, yes, Pixie, we will all hope that he is slightly less-Mad Max. At least he's not so nutty.

Or maybe it was relationships with girls, but not for the reason O and A did it. It was for sanity's sake. Of course, maybe that was their secret thought too.

PS. It took me a few hours to realize what you meant, LF. Sorry---the chaos here today has been back to normal.

Origen was voluntary (following Mt.19:12), but the French philosopher Peter Abelard (1079-1142(3?))was castrated (1117?) by the uncle Fulbert (canon of Notre Dame) of his student Eloise, after they had an affair and she gave birth to a son. Fulbert and others broke into Abelard's room at night to take revenge. Eloise, half his age, entered a convent, and he temporarily entered a monastery (1117-8). I read some of their subsequent correspondence when I was midway through high school.

Thanks for clarifying, LF. I had forgotten those details and jumped too quickly to my cutesy remark.

Awwww, poor kitteh! But the snippy-snippy had to be done. >^..^< He'll be back to baby-kitty craziness in no time.

Wait 'til I post later today about this morning's kitty-spay adventure. Ohhh, boy. :-P

How is MadMaxBeyondThunderdome?

Now that Max has lost his own personal little Thunderbumps, he is slightly quieter (or perhaps that's my imagination), still Madly in love with me, and maybe a little better with the girls. The interesting thing is that they are less impatient with him; maybe they sense that he's different now.
