It was Lily all along!

The mystery of the peed-upon down comforter is solved. It wasn't Max, though he took the fall and lost his masculine appendages because of it. No, a week after Max came back from the vet much subdued, another puddle appeared on the bed and this one revealed a pinkish tinge. Fortunately, the comforter is not ruined this time, since only one corner got wet and it can be either cut off or tucked way underneath the mattress. I soaked it in vinegar, at the advice of other catpersons.

No, it was Lily, who had a bladder infection and now is on antibiotics and special food. The only problem with the special food (aside from the fact that it is ungodly expensive) is that Lily doesn't like it. So we will revert to the special diet Friskies I had been using sporadically in the past year; all cats will get only the urinary tract special diet of Friskies from now on. I hope this will stave off the problem. If not, we'll see if there are other alternatives to Royal Canin and Science Diet at $1.25 per 5.5 oz. can. Luckily I only bought four cans. I'll get some of the dry stuff to try out.

So poor Lily was sick and I didn't know it until she had an accident on the white coverlet. Poor baby. She's feeling better but not back to herself. And I am keeping the bedroom door shut until I can get the bed made and put down something protective.

I'm off to a Mystery Murder party tonight up in Coupeville, put on by a member of the congregation. I feel quite up for it, now that I have solved my own personal mystery without having to murder anything.

We had a peeing animal friend and found great relief with Nature's Miracle. Just Fyi. Glad you found the source.

Ooooh, isn't this a tale (tail?) for the misogynist. A female causes the male to be literally castrated for her sins. Don't let Rush Limbaugh hear.

;)

No, no, no, it was something she ate, not a sin! She is an innocent victim! Of course, so is he, though he was riding for a fall as it was.

Lizard Eater has the right idea, but it is actually worse than that. You and the cats have just reenacted part of Genesis and the creation of Original Sin (you already got there, I think), with you playing God. For that you are sentenced to read Pagels's book on Adam, Eve, and whatever, which is really good for teaching adults (maybe teens) why the Western World is so insane about sex.

Good grief, how do I respond to that, LF? I am a biologist at heart and hit on the most logical explanation for the pee puddle----the young male cat whose testosterone was demonstrably affecting his behavior in several ways already, making it not unreasonable that he was marking my Kit-scented blanket with his tag as a token of his claim on me.

Except I have a feeling you're probably teasing me, both of you, and so I will quit being defensive and not put the kibosh on your wild comparisons with Genesis characters. Later, that is.

Lily did not manipulate Max into being castrated. It took her two tries to get my attention but she did it. Maybe that's all Eve was up to anyhow.

The Husband and I are laughing (very fondly) ... you are such a tenderheart, defending your meow-meows' honor, both Lily and Max.

I am a cat person, too. We lost our 17 year old cat several months ago and I'm amazed at how much I continue to miss her. But I think I may be getting close to ready for a new puddytat.

Oh, and with our dear Miss Molly ... she had repeat UTIs about 10 years ago. We tried the expensive stuff, but what wound up consistently keeping the infections away was the Purina special care, UTI version. Go figure.

Hooray! Kitty health problem solved! And I agree with Ms. T: Nature's Miracle is good stuff. So is Get Serious!, which has helped me out as well.
