Update on Neo-Paganism Post and Cat Stuff

The responses to my recent post asking for input on how neo-paganism and UU values coincide have revealed widely divergent views on the topic, from deep cynicism and pained responses to that cynicism to personal theological reflections on how earth-centered faith practices have enhanced others' UU experience.

I'm not sure how I will end up using the responses in my sermon, but I am certainly better-informed than I was a few days ago! And I'm very thankful to all who responded. The conversation is still open, and I'm hoping that the Favorite Son will add more of his thoughts to the melange.

As far as the cat situation goes, I have been researching making cat food, as Ms. Theologian has suggested, and I just came back from ACE hardware where I bought a 1 mil dropcloth which I plan to attach to the back of a coverlet, so that I can protect the bedcovers with something besides the vinyl-backed tablecloth which crackles noisily when moved.

In addition, the pheromone diffuser seems to be having a positive effect (as much as I can tell---all three are zonked out on the bed in there and have not had any fights on the bed that I know of). If there is another accident by anyone, well, I am not sure what my next step will be.

Thanks for all the kind thoughts and suggestions.

I'm wondering if there's a human version of the pheremone diffuser. That sounds quite effective!

And I won't think any less of you if you can't make the food homemade. I know that often people suggest making things to me, and I'm like, Yes, of course, in my copious amounts of free time I could make paper and grow my own food, but meanwhile back at the ranch....

Actually, the idea of making my own catfood is very appealing to me, Ms. T, so I'm thinking about trying it, if I can find a good heavy-duty meat grinder on e-bay or at a thrift store. I'm not willing to buy one for $200! I'll consult with the vet on ingredients, but they look pretty straightforward, from what I've seen on the web.

PS. I would love to find a human version of the pheromone diffuser myself!

There probably is something in aromatherapy that closely approximates the pheromone infuser... but I'm too busy to do any research on it. ;-) It does sound like a great idea.
Best of luck with the cats, Ms. K.

Kit, we have tried making dog foods before and, though the dogs love it, it's almost impossible (unless you become a pro dogfudenstuffer I guess) to come up with a good balanced diet that is consistent. I mean, lots of folks make their own pet food but it's not easy, and the fun/novelty can wear off quickly. For a cat with a bladder history, you might try Wysong Uretic, or maybe Bayview Farm Store people can give you better advice (I'm thinking of Amanda in particular). The vet food is only there because of marketing. C/D (S/D, A/D, bleh bleh) is all so-n-so crap that's comparable to Friskies. We had good luck with the Wysong cat fud.

Thanks, Anon, I will look into it. I'll probably try making food for the cats, but I know it's not a piece of cake!
