I don't know how far along you are in planning, but i hope you are going to "build green". to that end, I offer a URL for a type of building that will heat and cool itself. I think that it should serve as an object lesson for a lot of faith communities.

To me, the lesson of the story about the rabbi and the monastery is clear. We are all messiahs. We should not relinquish responsibility for saving the world to a messianic figure; rather, if we act as a community of mutual respect we build a better world ourselves. It is on our shoulders, and we should act accordingly.

Of course, the word "messianic" has some very sinister meanings as well. When one says that Bush has a messianic complex, it means that he thinks that God is on his side and that it gives him the right to bully the world as he pleases. Something else to consider when we talk about messiahs.Mystical Seekerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10828225180668865911noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30312228.post-53222896950790664342007-10-09T15:51:00.000-07:002007-10-09T15:51:00.000-07:00Well, indeed that is a heavy-duty and impressive s...Well, indeed that is a heavy-duty and impressive sermon. I envy your ability to translate from Christianese to a broader framework, at least for the dialect of Christianese with which you grew up. A problem might be, how broadly are your translations acceptable, and within what ideological framework? Every now and then I sit down in my library with Kittel's theological dictionary of the NT to sort some of these concepts out, and on many occasions I have read through long articles in Bauer's dictionary of NT Greek in bed at night, trying to sort out a concept before going to sleep. An idea such as messiah meant something different to Jews or to Christians of Jewish background than to gentile Christians who had never had the Jewish frame of reference. A different word might need a different frame of reference; at times I think that there is a incredible misunderstanding in thinking of the evangelist John's use of the logos in his prologue in terms of Greek philosophy, when it seems to fit as translating the Semitic word ("memra" if I recall correctly) that represented the Jewish God.
LFLinguistFriendhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02695715246663202212noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30312228.post-22739834823191956212007-10-09T06:23:00.000-07:002007-10-09T06:23:00.000-07:00Dear Ones,Thank you for your kind words. Usually, I feel sorry for myself for missing your talks - but this time I think it was a good thing because I got the chance to read it at my own time and it was new to me. I am filled with gratitude for the depth of your sharing - I know that is never an easy thing to do. I'm also grateful for your reminder to be grateful! It's so easy to forget how important "Thank you" is, and it's important to remember that specific "Thank you's" are so much better than generic ones. Finally, I love the idea of each of us treating each other as the next Messiah - what a concept!

Namaste.Sarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09240446987301139686noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30312228.post-86450821554475891682007-10-08T19:31:00.000-07:002007-10-08T19:31:00.000-07:00Excellent! Thanks for the reminder that none of us has a lock on the truth and that there is room for everyone to say "I apologize" and "Thank you."Mile High Pixiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03276750909800945131noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30312228.post-2937028946585157712007-10-08T18:28:00.000-07:002007-10-08T18:28:00.000-07:00Wow, Ms. K.
